Ever wondered where Weimar’s student life truly blossoms? Here at m18 \u2013 Haus der Studierenden Weimar, or simply M18, you’re standing before the epicenter of student activity.
M18 is more than just a building. For many, it is an extended living room. The yellow house you see is on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus. Since the early 2000s, it has been run by the student representatives of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The StuRa of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar has also been involved for several years.
Inside m18, the Café s140 immediately catches the eye. You can see its Kickerraum and the Kontor&Stift right on the ground floor. But there is much more to M18.
Upstairs, you will find the world of student engagement. Here, hobbyists tinker in the Maschinenraum, the Hackspace for tech enthusiasts. Musicians and artists use Culture Care technology. The marke.6 organizes exhibitions from its office, and Kulinar Kultur cooks delicious meals next door.
Most evenings, student representatives meet in the meeting room. They have their headquarters one floor up. It houses the offices of the student representatives.
Students elect twelve courageous individuals from their faculty each year. These representatives advocate for student interests. Students can bring questions about examination regulations and suggestions for teaching to the FsR. They can also discuss study-related problems. Members are delegated from these ranks to the Student Convention and the Faculty Council. The FsRs traditionally organize special events. They always welcome committed students. Public meetings take place regularly in the M18’s offices or meeting room.
Studying means more than lecture halls and labs. This is especially true in Weimar. Following the Bauhaus idea, there are countless opportunities to explore your creativity. Whatever interests you, there will likely be an initiative for it.
If not, you can start a new one every November. At that time, the StuKo decides which group to support financially and logistically. For questions, contact the office for initiative coordination or the relevant initiative directly. During the introductory week, all initiatives introduce themselves at the Movie Lounge. They invite students to join. Because that’s what matters. M18 needs students like you. You can help shape the creative life beyond the study schedule. So come on in. Get involved in Weimar’s vibrant student culture here at M18.
