Out in Mirs Bay lies a hidden gem. This is Breaker Reef. It is an uninhabited island. The reef is part of the Tai Po District. This area is in the New Territories of Hong Kong.

Breaker Reef lies southwest of Shek Ngau Chau. It is a remote location. Calm conditions are needed to reach it by boat. This makes it a mysterious place for many.

Have you heard the stories? Some say sharks lurk in these waters. Others whisper about the challenges of diving here. Many have heard of Breaker Reef. Few have had the chance to explore it.

The name “Breaker Reef” comes from the waves. At low tide, they crash over the rocks. The Chinese name is 打浪排. This translates to Dǐlàng Pái in pinyin.

Imagine a speedboat ride. It takes about 45 minutes from Shek Ngau Chau. You approach the reef. Waves churn around the reeftop. Even a slight wind makes it rough.

Divers descend into the greenish gloom. Visibility can be poor. It’s often only 2-3 meters. Below 10 meters, soft corals emerge. Orange, white, and pink hues paint the scene. Gorgonians and sea whips sway gently. The deeper you go, the denser the coral.

Anemones cover the rocks in shallower areas. Anemonefish dart among them. Schools of small fish circle the outcrop. Breaker Reef has a reputation for big fish. Yet, poor visibility can hide them. Some divers spot stingrays.

Breaker Reef is similar to Sung Kong. It features a deep, rocky reef. Soft coral is abundant here. Better visibility would make for excellent diving.

Breaker Reef remains an elusive site. Its remoteness and conditions make it challenging. Yet, it holds a special allure for divers. They seek the thrill of the unknown. They hope for a glimpse of marine life. They want to explore its underwater beauty. Will you be one of the lucky ones to explore Breaker Reef?
