Did you ever hear of a baseball field nestled within a county park? That’s Tucker Field at Barcroft Park for you. Right here in Arlington, Virginia, this field has been home to the George Washington University baseball team since 1993. Tucker Field isn’t on the university’s main campus in Washington D.C. It’s tucked away across the Potomac, making it a unique sporting venue. Before 2023, the team was known as the George Washington Colonials. They’ve now transitioned to the Revolutionaries, carrying on a legacy of baseball at this field. The Colonials, and now the Revolutionaries, have enjoyed a winning streak at their home turf, boasting a near .600 winning percentage. Imagine cheering on the team from one of the 500 seats, a truly intimate baseball experience. A major renovation in 2012 brought a fresh look to Tucker Field. New synthetic turf, an updated bullpen, and improved concessions made the ballpark even better. The dugouts and seating also got an upgrade. Just two years later, a generous donation of $1 million by alumnus and board member, Avrum “Ave” Tucker, led to the field’s renaming. Tucker himself played centerfield for the Colonials. Back then, they played their games on the Ellipse, right between the Washington Monument and the White House. Now, Tucker Field carries his name and legacy. While the atmosphere is simple, focused purely on the game, the experience is undeniably charming.
