Grieving family and friends gathered to remember Nina Larson. Nina Larson, a 24-year-old woman, was tragically struck and killed in Adams Morgan. This memorial now stands as a testament to her life.
The accident occurred near Mintwood Place. Nina Larson worked at the restaurant. It happened at the intersection of Columbia Road NW and Biltmore Street NW. The driver remained at the scene. Nina Larson, unfortunately, died at a local hospital.
Nina Larson had recently graduated from American University. She chose to live and work in D.C. after graduation. She was actively pursuing her dream of becoming an opera singer. Her mother said her beautiful voice was going to bring light to the world. Her death leaves a huge hole across the country.
The community responded by leaving flowers and notes. These tokens of remembrance were left at Mintwood Place. They served as a symbol of the community’s support. ANC Commissioner Peter Wood expressed comfort. He noted the community’s willingness to show up for those who have been hurt.
Nina Larson’s mother, Matilde Larson, described her daughter. She said Nina was a beautiful, talented, kind, and generous person. Nina loved music and theater. She dedicated four years to the musical theater program at New Canaan High School.
Nina was involved in all the shows. She was either onstage or backstage. Besides singing, she also painted. During COVID, she tried to support herself. She sold her paintings on Etsy. Nina also fostered cats. She worked with Pets Bring Joy Rescue. She often took on the most challenging cases. These included babies needing bottle-feeding or older cats in their final days.
Eventually, Nina adopted a street cat named Elsa. Elsa now lives in D.C., but will soon move to Connecticut with Nina’s mom. Nina sang all her young life. She participated in the children’s choir. Later, she joined the adult choir at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the NCHS Madrigals.
Matilde Larson said Nina had the most beautiful voice. She was beautiful inside and out. Nina loved deeply. She loved her brother and her friends. She maintained close friendships. These friendships dated back to her preschool days.
While studying to be an opera singer, Nina worked as a waitress at Mintwood Place. The restaurant closed for two days after her death. Memorials were held in Washington every night. Nina was a popular staff member. She often sang Happy Birthday in an operatic voice for celebrating customers.
Nina is survived by her parents and her brother. Her brother, P.J. Larson, is married to Anya and lives in West Hartford. She was predeceased by her grandparents.
Matilde Larson shared that Nina was kind and generous. She expressed being overwhelmed by the love and support. This came from Nina’s friends in New Canaan and American University.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash that took Nina Larson’s life.
