In the heart of Vila Rica, a small group gathered. They shared a dream: to build a spiritual haven, a place of worship and community. This dream blossomed into the Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis. The first mass at Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis was celebrated on May 14, 1989. It was held at the Marechal Costa e Silva School in Vila Rica. Father Lucas led the service, marking the humble beginning of this vibrant community. The land where Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis now stands was acquired through the generosity of its faithful. Donations, festivals, raffles, and various events fueled the dream. The community’s name, Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis, was chosen due to its proximity to the São Camilo Hospital and Maternity. The surrounding neighborhood also bears the same name, further solidifying the connection. In 1991, construction began on the first temple of Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis. Numerous individuals poured their hearts and souls into the project. They embodied the spirit of the early Christian communities, working together with shared prayer, donations, and a strong sense of community. This first church was dedicated on June 20, 1992, by Bishop Geraldo Lírio Rocha. Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis actively participates in the events of the São João Batista Parish. Its various teams, pastoral groups, and movements dedicate themselves to sharing the message of Jesus. In 2010, the community celebrated its 21st anniversary with great joy. Soon after, they embarked on the construction of a new, larger temple. This new structure aimed to provide a more comfortable space for the growing community. With the unwavering support of Father José Valdecy Romão, the new church of Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis was completed and dedicated in 2011 by Bishop Décio during his pastoral visit. Today, Comunidade São Camilo de Lellis stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and perseverance.
