How did four congregations become one? That’s the story of Holroyd Uniting Church. This church stands as a testament to unity and faith. It is located on Guildford Road. This is the George McCredie Memorial Church. It was built in 1905.

In January 2010, a significant event occurred. Four congregations joined forces. These were Mountford UC, Merrylands UC, McCredie UC and Granville UC. They formed the Holroyd Uniting Church Congregation. Their first service was on January 3rd, 2010. Rev Elizabeth Orr led the service.

Initially, the combined congregation met at Merrylands Uniting Church. After about a year, they moved. Since June 26th, 2011, they have worshipped at McCredie Memorial Church in Guildford. This location became the central hub for the newly formed Holroyd Uniting Church.

Over time, some of the original sites closed. Mountford UC closed in 2010. In 2016, the Merrylands site closed. The Holroyd Local Council acquired it. It is now part of Cumberland Council.

The Uniting Church has a broader history. It formed on June 22nd, 1977. Three denominations came together. They were the Congregational Union in Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia and the Presbyterian Church of Australia. This union testified to Christ’s gift and will for the Church.

Ecumenism remains vital. It influences the Church’s life and work. This happens in local congregations and national commitments. The church works with other churches. They maintain relationships with churches in Asia and the Pacific.

The Basis of Union is a key document. It states core beliefs and structure. It guides the Uniting Church.

Holroyd Uniting Church continues this legacy. It embraces unity and collaboration. The church actively engages with its community. Rev Richard Penisini is the current Church Minister. Hewitt House is also located at 486 Guildford Rd. Property enquiries can be directed to Henry.

Holroyd Uniting Church represents more than just a building. It embodies a journey of unification. It shows a commitment to faith. It demonstrates service to the community. The McCredie Memorial Church building stands as a symbol. It signifies the enduring spirit of unity. It is a welcoming place for all who seek connection and spiritual growth.
