Can you picture a “Hong Kong-style” hospital in Shenzhen? Right here, near Luohu Port, stands the Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital. It’s the first of its kind, a port hospital catering specifically to Cantonese speakers. Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital opened its doors on a Wednesday, aiming to bridge the healthcare gap between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. This innovative hospital boasts a comprehensive range of services. From dental care to magnetic resonance imaging, and specialized departments like ophthalmology and gynecology, it’s a one-stop shop for medical needs. Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital even incorporates familiar elements for those coming from across the border. The signage is in traditional Chinese, and the staff are all fluent in Cantonese. It truly aims to create a comfortable and familiar environment. While the hospital hopes to be part of the Health Care Voucher program, it’s not quite there yet. The founder, Dennis Lam Shun-chiu of Hong Kong’s C-MER Eye Care Group, is working to demonstrate the hospital’s management qualifies for inclusion. He also envisions seamless access to patient records shared with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority. Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital is not just about providing services. It’s also about fostering collaboration. They are actively recruiting doctors from Hong Kong to strengthen the healthcare connection between the two cities. The goal is to serve the Greater Bay Area residents with high-quality, affordable care in a convenient location. This innovative approach marks a significant step in cross-border healthcare cooperation. The “Three Connections” – pharmaceuticals and medical devices, talent, and data – are at the heart of this venture. Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital celebrated its opening with prominent figures like Jiang Likun, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Shenzhen, and Li Huiqiong, a member of the National People’s Congress from Hong Kong. The presence of these dignitaries highlights the importance of this cross-border initiative. Just a short walk from Luohu Port, Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital combines the best of Hong Kong’s medical system with Shenzhen’s local needs. It’s a comprehensive facility focused on treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation, creating a diverse new model for cross-border medical services. Hong Kong Clearwater Bay Hospital represents a hopeful step toward greater integration and accessibility in healthcare for the entire Greater Bay Area.
