Overlooking the Tama River, Mt. Masugata offers breathtaking views of Tokyo. Mt. Masugata isn’t just a peak. It’s steeped in history, connected to the ruins of Masugata Castle. The castle, strategically placed on this hill, once served as a vital defense point for Kamakura. Imagine warriors patrolling these slopes, guarding against invaders. In 1504, the famous Hōjō Sōun camped here during his campaign against the Uesugi clan. The strategic importance of Mt. Masugata and its castle is clear. They controlled a key route along the Tama River. Later, in 1569, the castle was reinforced against the Takeda clan. Though the castle is now in ruins, remnants like a restored castle gate still stand within Ikuta Green Park. From the observation platform on Mt.
