Peering over the edge it’s easy to see why Wentworth Falls is so famous. This town in the Blue Mountains is known for its spectacular bushwalks and views. Wentworth Falls offers some of the most dramatic vistas in the region.

Originally, this place was called Weatherboard. That name came from the Weatherboard Hut, built in 1814. Just a year later, Governor Macquarie renamed it Jamison’s Valley. This was in honor of Sir John Jamison a leading citizen. The name changed again in 1879 to Wentworth Falls. This time it honored William Charles Wentworth, one of the first explorers to cross the Blue Mountains.

Wentworth Falls is not just about the views. The Kings Tableland is an area of major archaeological importance. It has been a gathering place for the Gandangara, Darug, and Wiradjuri people for over 22000 years. You can find engravings and axe-grinding grooves there.

In 1836, Charles Darwin visited the area and stayed at the Weatherboard Inn. He described the immense gulf that unexpectedly opens through the trees. Darwin was impressed by the depth of perhaps 1500 feet. In 1986, the Charles Darwin Walk was opened. It follows the route he took from Wilson Park to the Jamison Valley.

Wentworth Falls has a rich history beyond its natural beauty. The Grand View Hotel is one of the historic landmarks you can visit. Wentworth Falls also has the School of Arts a venue for community events.

For those who enjoy a round of golf, there is the Wentworth Falls Country Club. The 18-hole golf course offers fresh air and stunning views. Wentworth Falls Lake is another popular spot. It was created in the early 20th century to provide water for steam locomotives. Today, it is a reserve and recreation area.

There are many natural lookouts in the area. These include Lincoln’s Rock, Breakfast Point Lookout and Princes Rock Lookout. These spots provide stunning views of the Jamison Valley and beyond. If you are up for a walk through the Valley of the Waters, you’ll find Empress Falls, Sylvia Falls and Lodore Falls.

One of the most popular walks is the National Pass. It skirts the edge of the Valley of the Waters. Sandstone steps were built in 1908 by Peter Mulheran and The Irish Brigade. The Conservation Hut serves as an information center. It is also a restaurant where you can start many of these walks.

Yester Grange is a heritage-listed home in Yester Street. It had many owners and eventually became a function centre. It is a sprawling timber bungalow with verandas.

Wentworth Falls offers a blend of natural beauty and rich history. From its stunning waterfalls to its cultural heritage. Wentworth Falls is a destination that captivates all who visit. Take your time to explore the walks and the views. You will discover why Wentworth Falls remains a treasured gem in the Blue Mountains.
