Imagine stepping back in time at The Cottage in Cape Town. This charming villa offers a unique glimpse into South Africa’s past. It provides a serene escape with modern comforts.

The Cottage boasts a history stretching back to 1810. H E Brand, Deputy Fiscal at Simon’s Town, sought land in Glencairn Valley. His request was granted. In 1822, a new grant was issued to Mr. H E Brand for 15 years. A Mr. T B Woolls, the Harbour Master at Simon’s Town, then acquired the grant in 1928.

The Cottage then was described as a substantial cottage with four rooms. It also had a kitchen, store room, cow house, stabling and servants’ room.

Let’s fast forward to 1985. The Welcome Cottage was declared a national monument on December 27th.

The land where Welcome Cottage stands has a rich heritage. Johannes Henricus Brand received it in 1811. He was the Deputy Fiscal of Simon’s Town. Brand later became a Member of the Court of Justice. His son, Christoffel, became the first Speaker of the House of Assembly. His grandson, Johannes Henricus Brand, became the first President of the Orange Free State. The main homestead and outbuildings showcase Cape Dutch style. Their architectural merit is considerable.

Today The Cottage offers modern amenities. It includes free WiFi, air conditioning, and a terrace. Imagine relaxing in this historic setting with all the conveniences of home.

Inside The Cottage, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen. It has a dining area and a flat-screen TV. The villa has one bedroom and two bathrooms. It also provides bed linen and towels.

The Cottage is ideally situated near popular beaches. Three Anchor Bay Beach is less than 1 km away. Rocklands Beach is 1.3 km away. Mouille Point Beach is 1.8 km away.
