Roman Śliwonik debuted as a reporter in 1952. His poem “Przypomnienie” appeared in “Twórczość” in 1955. He co-founded and edited the “Współczesność” journal. This journal played a vital role in shaping Polish literary identity.

Śliwonik’s work spanned poetry, prose, and screenplays. His writings appeared in “Magazyn Literacki” and “Życie Literackie”. He also served as a judge for literary competitions.

He even appeared in two short films by Marek Piwowski. “Przedział na sto i więcej osób” and “Muchotłuk” showcased another facet of his creativity.

Śliwonik’s poetry explored themes of memory and everyday life. His notable works include “Ściany i dna” and “Rdzewienie rąk”. “Zapisy z codzienności” captured the nuances of daily existence. “Wyprzedaż” and “Z pamięci” reflected on life’s experiences.

His talent earned him numerous awards. He received the “Poezja” prize for his collection “Z pamięci” in 1977. Śliwonik also won the Juliusz Słowacki Award. Other accolades include the Red Rose Award and the UNESCO World Poetry Day Award. He was honored with the Władysław Reymont Literary Award in 2006 and 2010. In 2008, he received the Silver Medal “Gloria Artis”.

Roman Śliwonik passed away in 2012. He rests at Powązki Military Cemetery. His legacy remains vibrant through his words. Śliwonik captured Warsaw’s spirit in his poetry and prose.
