“A haven of culture and community” That’s how many describe Midsommargården. It’s more than just a building. It’s a piece of Stockholm’s history. Right here on Telefonplan Midsommargården stands tall. This vibrant cultural hub wasn’t always so bustling.

Midsommargården opened its doors in 1946. It began as a gift. LM Ericsson’s then-CEO Hans Theobald Holm had a vision. He wanted a community center for his employees and their families. A place for relaxation and learning. The result was the founding of the Midsommargården Foundation. The building itself is a marvel of functionalist architecture designed by Ture Wennerholm. He also designed the LM Ericsson factory nearby. The yellow brick of the main building stands in contrast to the light-colored plaster of the wing. Initially shops a bank an apothecary filled the ground floor. Upstairs a small theater a library a ballroom a kindergarten and study rooms welcomed residents. There were even apartments higher up.

Midsommargården has been a community anchor. It has hosted countless events courses and gatherings. It’s provided a space for learning and connection for nearly 80 years. It’s one of six ‘hemgårdar’ in Stockholm. These are community centers offering cultural programs and a space for people of all ages and backgrounds to gather. In recent years Midsommargården faced challenges. It almost closed in 2013. Luckily the Midsommargården Association and Kung Saga AB stepped in. They ensured that this vital cultural center would remain a vibrant part of the community.

Today Midsommargården continues to thrive. It offers a wide range of activities for all ages. There’s Studio Ung a free creative hub for young people. The Container Telefonplan a constantly evolving creative space further enhances its community reach. Even a peaceful outdoor area called Glantan provides space for relaxation and creativity.

Midsommargården isn’t just a building. It’s a legacy. A testament to the power of community and the enduring spirit of Stockholm. Its history is rich. Its future bright. It stands as a proud symbol of the city’s commitment to culture and community. As you leave Midsommargården today remember its story. Remember its impact on the people of Stockholm for almost eight decades. Remember it is a place of possibilities a true oasis.
