Perhaps Toyo High School’s story is one of resilience and adaptation. Established in 1904 as Toyo Commercial School it has transformed over the decades. The school aimed to cultivate individuals who could thrive while pursuing their goals. It also wanted its students to work well with others.

Initially, it focused on commercial education. In 1906, the name changed to Toyo Commercial School. It wasn’t until 1972 that it adopted the name Toyo High School. This marked a significant shift in its educational focus.

Toyo High School embraced co-education in 2001. This change brought a new dynamic to the student body. The school also introduced a two-semester system and special IC courses. The new school building at Suidobashi was completed in July of that year.

Three courses were introduced in 2009. These were special advanced selection, special advanced, and general advanced courses. In 2012, the legal name changed from Tosho Gakuen to Toyo High School.

While Toyo High School has a rich history, another “Tokyo High School” once existed. This school became part of Tokyo University. This adds a layer of complexity to the school’s story. The current Toyo High School assumed its name in 1954.
