Nučice u Rudné

Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the bustling streets of Prague? A journey just outside the city leads us to Nučice u Rudné. This charming village has seen centuries come and go, its history intertwined with the fate of the Czech lands. You might be surprised to learn that Nučice was first mentioned in 1037. This makes it nearly a thousand years old. In the early days, the village was called Vnučice and took its name from a certain Vnuk, meaning the village of Vnuk’s people. In 1295, King Wenceslaus II bestowed the village upon the Metropolitan Chapter of Saint Vitus in Prague. The village even housed a fortress, which sadly was destroyed in the Hussite Wars. Nučice later belonged to the Lords of Kladno until 1540. Nučice eventually became a part of the Červený Újezd estate in 1580. Imagine, a village with such a rich history, standing right before us. Not always a peaceful tapestry, its past was marked by conflict and power struggles.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Nučice involves the mining of iron ore, which began in 1845. The discovery caused the village to expand and a new influx of residents arrived. This growth was even more pronounced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Nučice is not only a place of history but also of a unique geographical position. It sits about 7 kilometers west of Prague. Most of its territory lies in a flat agricultural landscape of the Prague Plateau. But the southwestern part extends into the Hořovice Uplands and the northwestern part into the Křivoklát Highlands. The highest point of Nučice reaches 424 meters above sea level. It’s a beautiful landscape, just begging to be explored.
Though Nučice has no protected cultural monuments, it boasts a Chapel of Saint Procopius. This Chapel is a testament to the enduring faith of the villagers, built in 1892-1893.
