Did Hans Moser ever imagine his likeness, cast in bronze, would overlook a park bearing his name? Here at the Hans Moser Büste, we celebrate the life and legacy of this beloved Volksschauspieler. The Hans Moser Büste, a bronze bust atop a granite pedestal, was sculpted by Josef Lehner and unveiled on May 28, 2003. The Hietzing district council commissioned the bust, with sponsorship from the Gothaer Versicherung. The Hans Moser Büste stands in the Hans-Moser-Park, a fitting tribute to a man who spent decades living and working in Hietzing. Two inscriptions grace the pedestal. One simply states, “Hans Moser 1880-1964”. The other reads, “To the great Volksschauspieler, who lived and worked in Hietzing for many decades. Dedicated by Gothaer Versicherung.” Moser, born Johann Julier, adopted his stage name from a court actor. He began his career in 1897, eventually captivating audiences with his distinctive mumbling delivery and unfinished sentences. He became a prominent figure in Viennese theatre and film, appearing in over 150 movies. His quirky mannerisms and comedic timing charmed audiences for decades. He often portrayed everyday men, from gardeners to waiters, bringing a touch of humor and humanity to each role. The Hans Moser Büste serves as a reminder of his enduring contributions to Austrian entertainment. It’s a place to reflect on the laughter he brought to so many, a quiet corner of Vienna where his memory continues to bring a smile.
