Let’s explore the depths of Grotta Tamara. This cave is also known by its cadastral number 7439. The main entrance to Grotta Tamara is located at a height of 527 meters above sea level. The coordinates of the entrance are 45.64117144 latitude and 13.88867389 longitude.
To reach Grotta Tamara, we need to follow a specific path. From the S.S. N.14, the road from Basovizza to Pesek, near the former shooting range, we ascend Mount Cocusso on a white road. It is a steep climb. We pass the Abisso del Diavolo on the left. We continue uphill until the road turns sharply left. It then proceeds on a flat section until it becomes a path. From there, a trail branches off to the right uphill. This traverses the western side of the mountain. It leads to the entrance of Grotta Tamara.
Inside Grotta Tamara, the cave begins with a 6-meter shaft. It was artificially widened by extensive excavation. This shaft connects to a second shaft. This one is 12.5 meters deep. It leads to the maximum depth of the cave. A difficult passage leads into an ascending gallery. The floor is made of earth. We reach a connection to a well-concretioned chamber. It is topped by a blind chimney with a flat ceiling. From this chamber, we can proceed southwest for a few meters. Alternatively, we can go northeast to a small jump. This jump leads back to the ascending gallery. It is topped by a second chimney. This one is similar to the previous one.
The entire cave of Grotta Tamara extends in a southwest direction. There are no possibilities for further exploration. Grotta Tamara has a planimetric development of 19 meters. The spatial development is 44 meters. The total depth is 18 meters. The bottom of the cave is at 509 meters above sea level.
Another description mentions a first cavern. From the entrance on Monte Cocusso’s side, there is a shaft on the left. It opens to the surface. The vault gradually lowers. It creates an awkward passage to a second cavern. This cavern features beautiful, colorful stalactites. In the final stretch, the cavity reduces in size again. The ground consists of a layer of clayey mud. Some specimens of cave beetles have been captured here.
Grotta Tamara is a relatively small cave. But it offers unique geological features. It also provides a habitat for cave-dwelling creatures.
