“Have you seen Hotokami?” Locals might ask about finding Komyoji Temple on a shrine and temple search site. Today we are standing before Komyoji Temple. It is formally named Daihozan Komyoji Temple. This temple is a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist temple. It is located in Hachioji City Tokyo.

Komyoji Temple’s story begins as a burial management office. It was an office for Myojoji Temple in Meguro Ward Tokyo. But everything changed by order of the sixty-sixth high priest, Nichida Shonin. He ordered its conversion into a temple. Myojoji Temple’s resident priest donated to make it happen.

The temple was founded on March 15 1975. Nichida Shonin served as the Great Teacher for the ceremony. At that time the buildings consisted only of the main hall. There was also a rest room and two residential rooms. Over the years Komyoji Temple expanded. A new mountain gate a guest hall and a parishioner’s hall were added. The main hall was enlarged. A charnel hall was newly constructed. These additions enriched the temple’s functions.

Komyoji Temple isn’t just a place of worship. It actively engages with the local community. It serves as a practice space for a local fife and drum corps. With the resident priest’s support children can practice. They can develop their skills in a dedicated environment.

The temple’s priests work to spread their teachings. They strive to address local issues. They dedicate themselves to their mission. As you explore Komyoji Temple consider its journey. From a simple management office to a vibrant temple. It shows the power of faith and community.
