In 1905, a town named Goodwood was established, mirroring the famed Goodwood Racecourse in England. J.G. Meiring High School now stands on the very ground where horses once galloped. The school, initially known as Goodwood Secondary School, opened its doors on January 18, 1954. With just 8 teachers and 88 pupils, it was a modest beginning. The official inauguration took place on August 23, 1956. The school was named after Dr. J.G. Meiring, the Superintendent General of Education at the time. J.G. Meiring High School has a clear vision: to equip each learner for their future, academically, spiritually, socially, and physically. The school strives to create an environment where students can flourish and reach their full potential. J.G. Meiring High School has grown significantly since its humble beginnings. Today, it boasts a proud history and excellent facilities. From a small secondary school to a prominent institution, J.G. Meiring High School continues to shape the future of its students.
