Tokyo Kasei University stands before us. It is a private women’s university. Its focus lies in home economics, humanities, nursing, and child development.

Founded in 1949, Tokyo Kasei University has a rich history. Its roots trace back to 1881. It began as The School for Japanese and Western Seamstress Techniques. Tatsugoro Watanabe founded it.

Imagine a time when many women didn’t attend school. This school filled a crucial gap. Besides sewing, it taught reading, writing, and mathematics. Watanabe believed women needed emotional and financial independence.

The university’s main campus is in Itabashi, Tokyo. It includes a dormitory and a library. The main administration offices are here too. Another campus exists in Sayama, Saitama.

The Sayama campus hosts short-term courses. These courses serve local communities. In-service courses for local teachers also take place here. It also hosts extra activities for the Itabashi campus students.

Inside the Itabashi campus, find the Tokyo Kasei University Museum. It holds cultural artifacts from Japanese history. You can also find Guatemalan and Taiwanese costumes. Indonesian shadow puppets are also on display. Many items are designated as significant tangible folk cultural assets.

The library holds over 440,000 books. Most relate to home economics and humanities. The library includes books in foreign languages like English.

Tokyo Kasei University fosters global connections. The Global Education Centre manages study abroad programs. It supports international students. The university has relationships with universities worldwide. These include institutions in the US, Canada, the UK, and New Zealand.

The Lifelong Study Center provides ongoing education. It offers over 80 courses to the local community. You can study languages, healthcare, and sports here.

Tokyo Kasei University has consistently supported women’s independence. It aims for social advancement. Over 110,000 graduates lead active lives. They use their expertise in various fields. In 2014, the university established the Institute for the Advancement of Woman.

So, as we conclude our visit, remember Tokyo Kasei University. It stands as a beacon of women’s education. It promotes autonomy and empowerment in a changing world.
