From atop Queen’s Hill, breezes whisper stories of transformation. Queen’s Hill wasn’t always a tranquil residential estate. It once echoed with the sounds of the British Forces Overseas Hong Kong, stationed at Queen’s Hill Camp. Imagine soldiers marching across these grounds, a stark contrast to the families that reside here today. The Hong Kong Housing Authority transformed this former military site into Queen’s Hill Estate in 2021. This remarkable change preserved pieces of the past. The stones of the old barracks now form the Heritage Wall and Recycling Path, a tangible link between then and now. Scattered throughout Queen’s Hill Estate are unique artworks crafted from retained wood and artifacts. These pieces, created by local Hong Kong artists, explore themes of “Roots and Origin”. They reflect the history, culture, and metamorphosis of Queen’s Hill. Even the benches you see around the estate carry a piece of history, fashioned from the wood of the former barracks. Queen’s Hill also embraces its natural heritage. Over a hundred existing trees were carefully preserved during the development, including ten high amenity value trees. Their beauty now graces the landscape for all to admire. The spirit of community thrives here. Students from Fanling Government Secondary School participated in art workshops, contributing their own creations to the estate’s collection. Queen’s Hill is more than just buildings. It’s a testament to the power of transformation, blending history, art, and nature into a vibrant community.
