“Do you feel that?” That’s the question Dona Guiomar might ask as you stand before the Centro Espírita Perseverança. It is a place where love and fraternity intertwine. The Centro Espírita Perseverança is more than just a building. It is a haven of spiritual development.

Founded in 1964 by Guiomar de Oliveira Albanesi and her husband, Serafim Antônio Albanesi, the Centro Espírita Perseverança began humbly. Dr. Bezerra de Menezes guided their early efforts. It started in a small room in São Paulo’s east zone. There, they offered passes, lectures and social assistance. From these humble beginnings the Centro Espírita Perseverança has grown. Now it is one of the largest Spiritist centers in the world.

Dona Guiomar, born in 1927, was the heart of the Centro Espírita Perseverança. She hailed from Presidente Prudente and came from a Protestant family. Later, she discovered Spiritism when she moved to São Paulo at 24. Her spiritual journey of love began then.

A dynamic leader, she infused the center with her energy. Dona Guiomar participated in all activities. She guided everyone with positivity. Her lectures covered science, philosophy and religion. In her office, love was paramount. She quickly assessed needs and offered spiritual guidance. Dona Guiomar dedicated her life to alleviating suffering. She led people toward spiritual growth.

Dr. Bezerra de Menezes is the spiritual guide of the Centro Espírita Perseverança. He was a doctor known as “the doctor of the poor”. Bezerra consolidated the Spiritist movement in Brazil. Even after his passing, he continued to aid others. He directs the center’s work and guides Dona Guiomar’s care.

In 1959, Chico Xavier told Dona Guiomar, “I see the light of Bezerra in your eyes.” This marked the start of their union. It led to the creation of the Centro Espírita Perseverança. The Espaço Dr. Bezerra de Menezes is a sanctuary. Here, weekly passes are given. Visitors seek solutions to daily problems. These problems relate to professional, spiritual or emotional areas.

The Salão de Palestras is a space for thousands. Lectures and doctrinal guidance take place here. Music harmonizes the environment. People connect with the Creator. The Centro Espírita Perseverança is a non-profit organization. It welcomes all seeking help. Over 20,000 people receive assistance weekly. This is made possible by 400 work groups. Almost 6,000 workers and spiritual benefactors contribute. For over 50 years, the Centro Espírita Perseverança has grown. It offers spiritual comfort to all who seek it. It embodies Christian teachings.

The Centro Espírita Perseverança also extends its love to the community. The Serviço Social Perseverança was founded in 1973. It focuses on children and adolescents. They are at risk and come from low-income families. The organization runs eight creches and three Espaços Gente Jovem Perseverança.

So, as you stand here remember Dona Guiomar’s words. “To live is not just a simple space between being born and dying. It is to energize life with acts of fraternity.” The Centro Espírita Perseverança embodies this spirit. It is a beacon of hope and love in São Paulo.
