Perhaps you’ve heard the name Smidehain before? That’s Schmiden’s old name from 1273. Schmiden, a part of Fellbach today, boasts a history stretching back centuries.

Schmiden once stood as its own municipality. It belonged to the Oberamt Canstatt. This administrative district dissolved in 1923. After that, Schmiden was assigned to Oberamt Waiblingen. Later, it became Landkreis Waiblingen in 1939.

The major change came in 1973. Schmiden was integrated into Fellbach during a municipal reform. Now, Schmiden is a district within Fellbach, located in the Rems-Murr-Kreis.
