Sestoj’s legacy echoes in the name u0160estajovice. We’re standing in u0160estajovice, a municipality with a history stretching back centuries. This village in the Prague-East District has a story to tell.

u0160estajovice sits just east of Prague. It merges seamlessly with Prague-Klánovice. The landscape here is flat. It is part of the Central Elbe Table.

The first written record of u0160estajovice dates back to 1227. A nobleman Kojata gifted u0160estajovice to the Knights of the Cross. They were from the Zderaz Monastery in Prague. The Knights built a fortress here. They lived here until the Hussite Wars. After the wars, u0160estajovice changed hands often.

The village’s name has interesting roots. The initial name was Sestojovice. It came from the personal name Sestoj. Some say the name comes from “six stables”. These stables supposedly served merchants traveling east from Prague.

Today u0160estajovice is a modern village. It has all the amenities one could need. There is a kindergarten and an elementary school. You will find a post office and restaurants here.

After 1989 u0160estajovice grew rapidly. New houses and apartments sprung up. This growth strained the village’s infrastructure. New leadership in 2006 curbed construction. They developed a plan limiting further expansion.

Since then, u0160estajovice has seen improvements. A new kindergarten and elementary school were built. A sports hall was added. The wastewater treatment plant and town hall were renovated. New playgrounds and bus stops appeared.

The village’s symbol has its own story. It is based on the Knights of the Cross’s emblem. They owned u0160estajovice from 1227 to the Hussite Wars. The village received its official symbols in 1994.

u0160estajovice may be small. But it has a protected cultural monument. That monument is a sandstone cross. It dates back to 1779. There is also a belfry in the village center.

The D11 motorway runs through u0160estajovice. This connects Prague to Hradec Králové. You can reach u0160estajovice by bus. Several lines connect it to Prague and nearby towns.

In 1932 u0160estajovice was a bustling place. It had a population of 1000. There were two carriers and two barbers. Four inns served locals and travelers. Blacksmiths and tailors plied their trades. There were dairies and milk shops. You could find cobblers, bakers, and butchers.

Before us lies a village that has transformed. u0160estajovice has grown from its humble beginnings. It is now a thriving community near Prague. Its blend of history and modern life makes it unique.
