Kwai Tau Leng is part of the Pat Sin Leng Country Park. This park was established in 1978. Pat Sin Leng Country Park covers 3,125 hectares. That is 7,720 acres of natural terrain. The park includes the Pat Sin Leng mountain range. Wong Leng, Ping Fung Shan, Cloudy Hill are also within the park. Hok Tau Reservoir and Lau Shui Heung Reservoir add to the park’s beauty.
To reach the summit of Kwai Tau Leng, prepare for a rugged climb. The paths are often steep and unmarked. They mainly rely on ribbons for guidance. It’s best to hike with experienced leaders. The Nam Chung Country Trail skirts Kwai Tau Leng. But it does not reach the summit. Unofficial dirt paths lead the way up.
The journey to Kwai Tau Leng begins at San Uk Tsai. Take Green Minibus No. 56B. Get off at the San Uk Tsai stop. From there, walk toward the San Uk Tsai signpost. Follow the main concrete road. Turn left at the fork. You will pass a public toilet. Then you will reach the Nam Chung Country Trail entrance. Look for a wooden signpost marking the dirt paths to the summit.
Before reaching Kwai Tau Leng’s summit, you will climb an unnamed peak. From here, enjoy views of Ping Fung Shan. Sheung Shui stretches out in the distance. Kwai Tau Leng is the next peak to conquer.
At the summit of Kwai Tau Leng, expansive views await. Starling Inlet and Sheung Shui spread before you. The panoramic vista is worth the strenuous climb. Descend carefully to rejoin the Nam Chung Country Trail. The downhill path is steep.
Turn right at the fork to rejoin the Nam Chung Country Trail. Turn left towards Nam Chung. The trail passes Ping Nam Stream. Finally, you will reach Nam Chung. The hike ends here.
Consider taking the minibus from Luk Keng on weekends and holidays. Arrive early to secure a seat. The minibus fills up quickly.
Be aware that the path to Kwai Tau Leng can be overgrown. It can be difficult to identify. Use a map and a GPS device for reference. The climb is steep and requires clambering. Wearing gloves is recommended for the ascent.
Alternatively, skip the Kwai Tau Leng climb. Follow the Nam Chung Country Trail directly to Tan Chuk Hang.
