Here stands Parafia Świętego Jana Chrzciciela w Józefowie-Michalinie a testament to faith and community. This parish began on June 24 1996. It emerged from a division within the parish of Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej in Józefów. Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk established the parish.
The story of Parafia Świętego Jana Chrzciciela intertwines with the history of Józefów-Michalin. The town itself has roots in the late 19th century. It grew from the parcelled lands of the Otwock Wielki estate. Michalina Kicka née Gutowska inspired its name. She was the daughter of the landowners. Initially the area served as a summer retreat along the Otwock railway line. Before World War II nine guesthouses thrived here. They accommodated up to 4600 visitors.
The origins of the parish’s religious life involve Father Jan Murziak. He built a temporary wooden chapel. Interestingly its center held a pine tree trunk as its altar. June 24 1994 marked the creation of a pastoral center. Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk dedicated a cross and the land for a future church on July 17 1994. From that day Mass was celebrated every Sunday. Construction of a brick chapel began in the autumn. Bishop Romaniuk consecrated it on December 18 1994.
During the first parish festival on June 24 1995 Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk consecrated three bells. They were named Roman Tadeusz and Maria. Cast in Węgrów parishioners funded these bells. A parish house was built between 1996 and 1997.
Construction of the church began in 1998. Roman Abramczyk an engineer designed it. Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk consecrated the completed Parafia Świętego Jana Chrzciciela on November 28 2004.
Today Parafia Świętego Jana Chrzciciela w Józefowie-Michalinie continues to serve its community. The parish includes several streets within Józefów. These streets include Akacjowa and Aleja Róż. Also included are Aleja Szucha and Asnyka.
Masses are held regularly. On Sundays and holidays services take place at 8:00 10:00 and 11:30. The 11:30 service involves children. Other services are at 13:00 except during vacations and 18:00. Weekday masses are at 7:00 8:30 and 18:00. Additional masses occur at 17:15 on Wednesdays. There are also services at 19:30 except on Wednesdays and Saturdays and at 20:00 on Saturdays.
Father Piotr Klimek has been the parish priest since October 6 2013. Father Protas Piotr is a vicar since August 26 2021. Father Krzysztof Husak is a resident priest since November 1 2013. Deacon Kazimierz Adamaszek has served since 2022.
