Isn’t it fascinating how a simple train station can hold so much untold history? I am talking about Kami-Nakazato Station. This JR East railway station is in Kita, Tokyo.
Kami-Nakazato Station might seem like just another stop. But it quietly plays its role in Tokyo’s transportation network. Opened on July 1, 1933, it has been serving passengers for decades.
The Keihin-Tōhoku Line runs through Kami-Nakazato Station. This line links Ōfuna and Ōmiya stations. Both rapid and local trains make stops here. That makes it easy to get around.
Let us talk about the layout of Kami-Nakazato Station. It features a single island platform. This platform serves two tracks. You can catch trains heading towards Akabane. You can also go to Minami-Urawa and Ōmiya on one side. The other side takes you to Ueno. It also goes to Tokyo, Yokohama, and Ōfuna.
In May 2023, the ticket gate saw many passengers. The station platforms were also busy.
Around Kami-Nakazato Station, you will find some interesting spots. Nishigahara Station on the Namboku Line is close by. You can explore the National Printing Bureau. The beautiful Kyu-Furukawa Gardens are also nearby.
Kami-Nakazato Station is near Furukawa Garden and Asukayama Park. Asukayama Park was Japan’s first designated park.
The area around Kami-Nakazato Station is mainly residential. But the station facilities are well-maintained. There are waiting rooms for passengers. Escalators and restrooms are available too.
Despite its small size, Kami-Nakazato Station has unique charm. It offers a peaceful atmosphere. You will find supermarkets and vending machines nearby.
The station has minimal space. Trains stop along the entire length of the platform. The platform’s width is narrow. The northern end tapers like a fish’s tail. Still, there is a nice waiting room. Two escalators stand side by side. There is also an elevator from the platform to the ticket gate.
Outside the ticket gate, you will find drink vending machines. There are self-photo studio boxes. Coin lockers are also available.
Kita-ku Takinogawa Kaikan is near the station. The railway line passes under a cliff from Ueno. A gentle slope leads to Takinogawa Kaikan. It is only 300 meters west of the station.
A Maruetsu supermarket is across from the station. It is on the first floor of a 13-story building.
To the northeast is the old Oku-Tabata marshalling yard. The south side has the only exit. A pedestrian bridge connects it to the north. Hiratsuka Shrine is to the west. The National Printing Bureau leads to Asukayama. Nishigaoka Station is on the Namboku Line.
Kami-Nakazato Station is a small station with a big story.
