The Sau Mau Ping landslide in June 1972 delayed the opening by three weeks. Finally, on September 25, 1972, students occupied their new building.
The school emblem tells a story of unity. Rev. John Cioppa, the first supervisor, designed it using the Chi-Rho symbol. These Greek letters, X and P, represent Christ. The oval symbolizes the world. Academically, Kwun Tong Maryknoll College has a strong reputation. Students consistently perform well in public examinations. Li Ki-kwong, in 2002, achieved 10 distinctions in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. Chu Chi-ho achieved the same feat in 2010.
