In 1925, Manor Road United Church opened its doors. It served the newly established Davisville Village community. The church became a beacon of faith. It provided support during challenging times like the Great Depression and World War II. Manor Road United Church was one of the first congregations. It had roots in The United Church of Canada. This new nationwide denomination was also formed in 1925. It united Methodists, Presbyterians, Congregationalists, and Western Union Churches. As the congregation and Sunday School grew, Manor Road United Church needed more space. In 1952, the church bought two neighboring lots. These were on the corner of Forman and Manor Roads. The church built an addition. This provided space for church activities, events, and community gatherings. In 2015, Manor Road United Church celebrated its 90th anniversary. The church decided to “right-size.” The two corner lots were sold to the City of Toronto. They were designated as parkland. The congregation was also recognized as an Affirming Ministry. This signified its inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ community and other marginalized groups. Manor Road United Church continues to be a vibrant community hub. It’s a visible sign of faith in Davisville. It embraces diversity and continues to serve as a spiritual home for many.
