A legend says a homeowner hung a sign “Grand View” near the Commercial Drive-1st Avenue intersection. This is how the area got its name. Construction boomed in 1906. Homes were built rapidly. The railway also drove industrial development along the waterfront. Park Drive became Commercial Drive a major commercial artery. People of many ethnicities made this their home.
