The Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui House of Prayer opened its doors in February 2012. It’s a special place for Anglican clergy laity staff and groups to retreat. It offers a tranquil environment. This is a place to encounter God in silence. The House provides Clinical Pastoral Education courses. These are offered to staff and seminarians of various Christian faiths.
Imagine finding yourself here. You’re surrounded by 21 rooms. There are prayer rooms for small groups. Interview rooms offer privacy. A reading room invites quiet reflection. The Chapel is the heart. The dining room can seat 26 people. Air conditioning keeps the retreat comfortable. It is available from mid-April to late October.
The House operates on donations. These are tax-deductible since the HKSKH is a registered charity. Costs vary for overnight or day camps. Individual spiritual direction sessions are also available. Discounts are offered to seminarians under 25.
Reaching the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui House of Prayer is an adventure. You take a ferry from Central Pier No 5 to Cheung Chau. Then you embark on a scenic walk. It’s a 20-25 minute stroll passing landmarks. These include Tung Wan Road St John Hospital and the Warwick Hotel. You climb a slope near Kwun Yam Beach. Then you follow Ming Fai Road uphill. Past Caritas campsites and the Salvation Army Bradbury Camp. You finally arrive at your peaceful destination.
The House provides quilts pillows and bedding. Bring personal items and insect repellent. Maintain silence in communal areas. Dress respectfully. Check-in is at 3:30 pm. Check-out is by 1:30 pm. The main gate closes at 7 pm. Lights are out at 11 pm. Meals are served at specific times. Clean your dishes afterwards.
