The church’s ministry vision comes from Luke 4:18-19. This scripture speaks of preaching the gospel to the poor. It includes healing the brokenhearted. It is about preaching deliverance to captives. It is about recovering sight to the blind. It means setting the bruised free. It means preaching the acceptable year of the Lord.

The Cornerstone Baptist Church has roots in Bladensburg MD. Pastor Daniel Mangrum held the first service on June 3 1984. This took place at Roger Heights Elementary School. The small church grew. It purchased 1.5 acres in Hyattsville MD. This land was for a new church building.
Another church played a role. The Peaceful Bible Baptist Church was formed in February 1983. Rev. Fred Xavier Porter led this church. It bought a building on Old Central Avenue in Capital Heights MD.

The Cornerstone Community Outreach Ministries have a wide range of ministries. These include Sunday School. They include evangelism. They also include missions. The SOUL Academy is part of it. Cornerstone Chapel has a US Outreach Ministry. This ministry responds to God’s call. They are messengers of hope. They share good news. Volunteers use their gifts. Financial resources help. They impact people for Christ. They put their faith into action. The ministry loves those who are troubled. They care for the poor, sick, lonely and lost.
