Yip Wong Estate

In October 2023, the Hong Kong Housing Authority designated Yip Wong Estate, along with other new public rental housing estates, to benefit from the best rent levels in their respective districts. Yip Wong Estate, located in Tuen Mun District, saw its three blocks, Yip Sin House, Yip Tak House, and Yip Tsz House, with a total of 2,604 flats, priced at a competitive $63.10 per square meter per month. This initiative aimed to provide affordable housing, with all flats priced under $2,500 per month, inclusive of rates, management fees, and maintenance. The Housing Authority acknowledged that these rents were heavily subsidized. Furthermore, applicants assigned to these new flats at Yip Wong Estate could request refurbished flats at lower rents if needed, demonstrating a commitment to housing affordability. Later, in the last quarter of 2023, about 400 new public rental flats were allocated within Yip Wong Estate. This followed a larger allocation of around 800 units in the nearby Hin Fat Estate, also in Tuen Mun, highlighting ongoing efforts to address housing needs. These combined efforts contributed to the lowest public rental housing waiting time in six years, reaching 5.3 years by the end of 2024. This was a significant improvement celebrated by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu. This drop reflected the impact of the new allocations at estates like Yip Wong Estate and governmental actions against tenancy abuse, freeing up more units for allocation. Yip Wong Estate stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to providing accessible and affordable housing solutions for Hong Kong residents.
