“Did you know that a Stonehenge replica exists just outside Prague?” That’s right we are standing before the Úvalské menhiry. Some even call it Úvalské Stonehenge. These stones aren’t ancient but they still have a story.

Úvalské menhiry is an artifical stone circle. You can find it on Vinice hill near Úvaly. It is not far from the Vinice lookout tower. Also nearby are the Avenue of Úvaly Children and Vinice Park.

The Úvalské menhiry site was created in 2015. This happened during a town project. The project was called “Improving forest paths and the surrounding area Stonehenge”. Before the stones, an old hunting lodge stood here. This cabin wasn’t even on any official maps.

After they tore down the cabin, they made the forest path into a spiral. In the middle stand stones like Stonehenge. Around the path, stones are arranged in different ways. Some are benches and others look like stone age deck chairs. Some are picnic tables. The stones are slightly pink. Their color changes during the day. It depends on how bright the sun is.

The town of Úvaly wanted to improve nature paths. They invested in the area around Úvaly. Before this, they fixed the path from Horova street. This path leads to where the stones now stand. The town plans to extend the walking path. It may reach above Hodov someday.

The project to create Úvalské menhiry cost 1.538 million Czech crowns. That includes VAT. These aren’t the only menhirs near Úvaly. You can find similar stones in the Pruhonice park. They have been there for over ten years.

The Úvalské menhiry offer more than just history. Young people like to climb on the stones. The area hosts the MTB Úvaly race and the Trail Run Úvaly every year.

You can reach Úvalské menhiry easily from Úvaly. Take the road towards Tlustovousy or Tuklaty. Turn off towards the lookout tower. From there, follow the path across the field. Or go through the forest. A path along the forest edge leads to Úvalské Stonehenge. You can also take a shorter path from the Úvaly square.

So next time you are near Prague, take a detour. Visit the Úvalské menhiry. It is a modern take on an ancient mystery. It blends art nature and recreation.
