“Nil Nisi Bonum” echoes in your minds. That’s “Nothing but the best” in Latin and the motto of Pennant Hills High School. It’s a fitting sentiment to start our exploration here.
Pennant Hills High School opened its doors in 1966. Since then, it has been a cornerstone of the community. The school aims for excellence. It wants students to achieve their personal best.
The school’s design is unique. Buildings follow the hilly terrain. You won’t find more than two levels at any point. Pennant Hills High School has four levels in total. Level 1 houses Social Sciences and Textiles. Level 2 includes Languages, Agriculture, Science, Food Technology, and Drama. Level 3 holds the main quad, library, and reception. Science, Maths, History, and Wood/Metal Technology rooms are also there. Level 4 is primarily for English, History, Maths, and Visual Arts.
Imagine the bustle after a fire in 2001. It devastated the administration building and other blocks. Student artworks were destroyed. Portable classrooms popped up near the oval. For a few years, maybe 20 to 25 dotted the landscape. By 2023, however, all portables had been removed.
Look around. You will see modern additions. An elevator connects levels 2 and 4. A new Design and Technology/Visual Arts building stands proudly. The COLA or Covered Outdoor Learning Area was constructed in 2005. Cricket nets were added in 2022.
Consider the “Ag Plot” or “Farm”. This agricultural area features paddocks and areas for growing plants. There is also a machinery shed, tool shed, and greenhouse. Sheep, chickens, and other livestock call it home.
Pennant Hills High School offers many subjects. Social Sciences, Science, Agriculture, and English are available. Music, Christian Education, History, and Maths are taught here too. Visual Arts, Industrial Arts, Languages, and Physical Education round out the offerings. The school also provides a Special Education system. It supports students with physical and intellectual challenges.
Beyond academics, there are many opportunities to play sports. Students can participate in netball, basketball, and volleyball. Cricket, football, futsal, oz tag, and baseball are also options.
The Drama Ensemble meets after school. Students hone their skills. They participate in the Annual Drama Festival and Theatresports Challenge. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award provides outdoor education. Students can participate at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels.
Several notable alumni have walked these halls. Ray Barber became a politician. Tim Bennetts played rugby union. John Faulkner served as a Senator. Lisa Ho made her mark as a fashion designer. Verity James became a television and radio presenter.
Pennant Hills High School continues to evolve. It strives to provide a safe, supportive environment. It is dedicated to quality teaching and learning.
