Interesting fact: The Werner-Siemens-Schule and the Kaufmännische Schule Stuttgart-Nord share a building. This building at Heilbronner Straße 153-155 has quite a story. Let’s explore the Berufliches Schulzentrum Nord also known as Werner-Siemens-Schule.

From 1978 to 1982 this complex was constructed. It provided space for two schools. The Werner-Siemens-Schule and the Kaufmännische Schule Stuttgart-Nord. However by the early 2000s, the building no longer supported modern education. Its layout hindered new teaching methods.

In May 2010, a major project began. The goal was to completely renovate and restructure the building. The aim was a modern school complex for both schools. The redesign focused on several key areas. A clearer layout would improve navigation. Updated escape routes would enhance safety. The project also prioritized energy efficiency. The renovation included replacing outdated building technology.

Architects added green roofs and terraces. These features softened the building’s appearance. The large roof surfaces and horizontal design remained. These integrated the school into the natural surroundings.

The comprehensive renovation cost approximately 46.07 million euros. It updated 26455 square meters of net floor space. The building’s volume totaled 134163 cubic meters. The architectural firm wulf architekten GmbH led the project.

The Architektenkammer Baden-Württemberg recognized the project in 2015. They awarded it the “Exemplary Building 2011-2015” prize. In 2017, the Bundes Deutscher Architekten also honored the project. They presented it with the Hugo-Häring-Auszeichnung.

Today the Werner-Siemens-Schule stands as a modern educational facility. It provides diverse programs in vocational training. It offers opportunities for further education. The school focuses on electrical engineering. The Kaufmännische Schule Nord offers business-related studies. Together they form a dynamic learning environment. It’s a place where students prepare for future careers. The Werner-Siemens-Schule also houses a Lernfabrik. This “learning factory” features advanced technologies. These include robots, 3D printers, and milling centers. The Lernfabrik also serves as a demonstration center. It hosts presentations for educators and industry professionals.
