Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart started its journey in 1923 in downtown Washington D.C. The Religious of the Sacred Heart founded it. The school was initially located at 1719 Massachusetts Avenue NW.
By the end of World War II Stone Ridge had grown. Its original building could no longer accommodate the growing number of students. The Society of the Sacred Heart sought a new location. In 1947 they acquired 25 acres in Bethesda Maryland. This estate was known as Stone Ridge. The property belonged to Mr. and Mrs. George Hamilton. Hamilton House built in 1904 became a central part of the campus.
Today Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart stands on this Bethesda campus. It continues to uphold its mission of Sacred Heart education. The school serves girls in grades 1 through 12. It also offers a coeducational program for younger children.
