High on the slopes of Tai Mo Shan, Chau Ma Kong rises to a height of 588 meters. This isn’t a place marked by well-worn hiking trails, yet it holds a certain allure for those seeking a bit of adventure near the more popular Tai Mo Shan. Chau Ma Kong itself is crowned with a Trigonometrical Station, a silent testament to its strategic location. The journey to this peak isn’t easy. It’s a steep climb, requiring sure footing and a bit of determination. But the views from the top, overlooking the surrounding landscape, are a reward in themselves. Interestingly, Chau Ma Kong sits near several other attractions. Just a bit further along the path lies the Yin Ngam Bamboo Grove, a serene expanse of towering bamboo stalks. It’s the largest bamboo grove in Hong Kong, creating a world of dappled light and whispering leaves. If you’re up for a longer trek, the MacLehose Trail Stage 6 is also accessible from this area. This challenging trail winds through the hills, offering panoramic views and a true test of endurance.
