From Constitution Hill’s summit breathtaking views unfold. Before you lies a suburb steeped in history. Constitution Hill wasn’t always a suburb. It was once part of Wentworthville. Then in 2007 it officially became its own suburb thanks to the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales.

Look around. Imagine the past. This very hill witnessed pivotal moments. It served as a key location during the 1804 Castle Hill convict rebellion. Mostly Irish convicts gathered here. They planned to distract government forces at Castle Hill. Then they aimed to attack Parramatta the colony’s heart.

The government suspected an attack on Parramatta. They kept their troops there. They mistakenly believed the convicts were in Toongabbie. The government forces marched west. They reached Mount Dorothy Constitution Hill’s highest point. They discovered the convicts hadn’t reached Constitution Hill yet. They were further west at Rouse Hill. Mount Dorothy now Caloola Road Reserve holds plaques commemorating the rebellion.

Today Constitution Hill is a thriving residential area. Most of its development occurred after World War II. You can find a small commercial area. It includes shops a library and a park. It even boasts a pizza restaurant featured in the TV series Fat Pizza Back In Business.

The suburb is also home to Toongabbie East Public School. It’s one of New South Wales’ smallest schools. In 2015 it had only 53 students and four teachers. Despite its size Constitution Hill offers a peaceful community. It enjoys a blend of cultures and stunning views. It has a unique past and a vibrant present. It’s more than just a hill. It’s a piece of Sydney’s story.
