Was the night of November 24th, 1981, cold? Here stands the Szkoła Oficerów Pożarnictwa Plaque. It commemorates a pivotal moment in the history of fire service education in Poland. The Szkoła Oficerów Pożarnictwa Plaque marks the spot of the Higher Officers’ School of Fire Service.

This institution has a rich history. It dates back to 1971. The school played a vital role in training fire service officers. They gained expertise in fire prevention and rescue operations. In June 1975, the first graduates emerged as fire engineers.

In July 1979, the school earned the right to offer master’s degrees. Over the next decade, it produced 948 fire engineers. But the Szkoła Oficerów Pożarnictwa faced challenges.

In late 1981, students protested. They demanded the school be included in higher education laws. They opposed military school regulations. A strike began. Workers from Solidarity joined them.

The government responded harshly. ZOMO units entered the school. They forced students and staff to end the strike. On November 30th, 1981, the Higher Officers’ School was dissolved.

However, the need for fire service education remained. In January 1982, the School of Main Fire Service was created. It replaced the dissolved school. The Szkoła Oficerów Pożarnictwa continued its mission.

Today, the Szkoła Oficerów Pożarnictwa stands as a testament to resilience. It is a commitment to training highly qualified fire service personnel. It is dedicated to protecting lives and property. The academy’s graduates serve with patriotism. They show devotion to duty.

The building itself has a story. Built in functionalist style in 1937-1938. Jan Reda designed it. It housed the Central Fire Service Training Center. The building suffered damage in 1944. It was rebuilt in 1948. A sports hall was added between 1966 and 1970.

In 1994, a plaque was placed on the facade. It commemorates the defense of the building. Soldiers from the Żubr unit defended it during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.

The Szkoła Oficerów Pożarnictwa Plaque represents more than just a school. It embodies the spirit of those who serve. They protect us from danger. It honors those who fought for academic freedom.
