The Emily Carr University Library, also known as the Ron Burnett Library + Learning Commons, made the bold move to ditch overdue fines in 2019. Imagine that! This haven for art and design enthusiasts is located right on the Emily Carr University of Art and Design’s Great Northern Way Campus. The Emily Carr University Library has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. It all started in 1925 with the establishment of the Vancouver School of Decorative Arts and Applied Arts. A few years later, whispers of a dedicated art library began circulating in art periodicals. The library really hit its stride in the 1930s, amassing a treasure trove of books on fine art, design, and art criticism. Today, the Emily Carr University Library is not just about books. It’s a vibrant Learning Commons, a hub for research and collaboration. They even have a dedicated space for environmental sustainability resources, which includes a seed library! What began as a small collection now holds over 60,000 items, a testament to the enduring power of art and its ability to inspire.
