Lawrence East

From 1985 until 2023 Lawrence East station served the Scarborough community. It was a vital transit hub. Lawrence East station was part of Line 3 Scarborough. It was the third busiest station on that line. This was after Kennedy and Scarborough Centre stations. Many bus routes connected to Lawrence East station. They were rerouted to serve the station in 1985. The station had a unique design. It had two levels. The platforms and entrance were on the ground level. An underpass connected the entrance to the northbound platforms. This station was only partially accessible. Northbound platform access was not accessible. The TTC suggested using Kennedy station for accessible service to the northbound platform. The station also had a large bus terminal. It was underneath the elevated part of Lawrence Avenue East. Several TTC bus routes used this terminal. A commuter parking lot was nearby. It had space for 90 vehicles. Lawrence East station played a major role in the lives of many Scarborough residents. It is now closed. A new station is planned for the same area. It will be part of the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth extension. This new station is expected to open around 2030. The old station’s bus facilities will likely be kept for community use. The legacy of Lawrence East station remains. It serves as a reminder of the area’s growth and transportation history.
