Župa Svete Obitelji

Established on October 17 1997 the \u017dupa Svete Obitelji in Nova Mokošica has a unique story. It wasn’t planned. The construction of Nova Mokošica began in the communist era. No space was designated for a church. Imagine the challenges faced by a growing community without a proper place of worship. The parish was entrusted to the Croatian Salesian Province. They initially used a rented storage space. Later they purchased an apartment and that served as a temporary church and parish house. This makeshift arrangement was far from ideal. It highlights the perseverance of the community’s faith. The parish’s central school serves the settlements along the Ombla river. High school students attend schools in Dubrovnik itself. The current church and parish house are also temporary solutions. The community awaits a permanent structure. The Salesians managed the parish from its inception until 2019. Restructuring within the province led them to withdraw. Diocesan priests now manage the \u017dupa Svete Obitelji. The lack of a permanent church and parish hall is a constant reminder of the ongoing need for a proper sacred space. Despite these challenges the \u017dupa Svete Obitelji remains a vital part of Nova Mokošica. It serves a community of nearly 6000 people. It stands as a testament to faith resilience and hope.
