Nestled on the Esplanade Rainier III, the Zoological Garden of Monaco is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Imagine this: you’re walking along the winding paths of the gardens, breathing in the fresh air, and surrounded by the sounds of birdsong. The Zoological Garden of Monaco boasts a fascinating history, established in 1954 by Prince Rainier III. This zoo is home to nearly 300 animals representing some 60 species. These include exotic birds, turtles, caimans, hippopotamuses, reptiles, primates, and farm animals. Here’s something you may not know: none of the animals in the zoo were purchased! Instead, they were all either donated, abandoned, or seized by customs. The zoo even serves as a refuge for animals in need, taking in those who have been neglected or mistreated. So, the Zoo is a testament to the love and compassion of the Monegasque people towards their furry, feathered, and scaly friends.
