In 1903, a group of ministers and community members gathered in a small community known as Kincheonville, Texas. They had a shared vision: to build a place of worship and fellowship. This vision eventually led to the foundation of Zion Rest Baptist Church. The land for the church was a gift from three prominent figures in the area: Mr. Strickland, Mr. Joe Davis, and Mr. Rick Dawson. The church has a rich history and has been more than just a place of worship. In its early years, it served as a school, with Mrs. Dina Taylor as its first teacher. Today, Zion Rest Baptist Church stands as a testament to the enduring faith and dedication of its founding members and the generations that followed. You’ll notice a blend of old and new, symbolizing the church’s continued progress through the years. The original sanctuary stands behind the current one and is now used as a fellowship hall. The church’s historical significance is further evident in its continuous growth and adaptation. Its dedication to progress is reflected in the construction of a new church in 1965 under the leadership of Rev. A. R. Evans. That was followed by a new fellowship hall in 1978, and in 1984, R. E. Foster became the pastor. Under his leadership, the church experienced another major transformation with the construction of a new edifice. It included a fellowship hall, office spaces, choir room, Pastor’s Study, and a Baptistery. The new Sanctuary was completed in 1988, and the old sanctuary was remodeled to match the new one. Today, Zion Rest Baptist Church remains a beacon of faith and community, carrying the legacy of its founders well into the future.
