How does a church become a “game changing Christian movement”? That’s the question you might ask yourself standing before the impressive Friendship Church. This isn’t just any church. Friendship-West Baptist Church, to use its full name, is a beacon of faith and social justice here in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1978, Friendship-West has grown to a congregation of over 4,000 members. But their mission extends far beyond the walls of their 150,000 square foot building on West Wheatland Road. Friendship-West is known for its commitment to social justice, advocating for issues like fair lending practices and criminal justice reform. They believe in nurturing a “beloved community,” working towards equality for all people in Dallas and beyond. Even the architecture here tells a story. Look up and you’ll see pyramids adorning the roof, symbolizing new life and reflecting the church’s embrace of its African heritage. Inside, the Ankh, an ancient Egyptian symbol of eternal life, takes center stage. Friendship Church is a testament to the power of faith to uplift a community and inspire positive change.
