Originally known as the Oak Cliff Assembly of God, the building was designed by Reverend J.C. Hibbard. The building’s construction concluded in 1942.

After moving from downtown Dallas, Zion Hill became one of the first African American congregations in East Oak Cliff. Paula Bosse of Flashback: Dallas recognized Zion Hill as one of twelve prominent historic Baptist churches in Dallas. These churches served black residents.

Preservation Dallas held an InTown Outing on July 19, 2022, to showcase the soon-to-be-renovated Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Members and non-members gathered to hear about the exciting future of this protected landmark.
