Here at 4123 First Street, stands Zion Fair Missionary Church. This beacon of faith has a rich and inspiring history. Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church’s story began in 1911. It was originally known as Zion Fair Colored Missionary Baptist Church.

The church’s first pastor was Rev. G.J. Shaw. Early leaders included F.H. Holmes, C.D. Dawson and J.D. Pace. These men served as trustees and deacons. In November 1916, Zion Fair acquired land. This lot was in Port St. Joe, Florida. The church purchased it for just one dollar.

In August 1942, more land was acquired. Dan Hodrick, Chester Gant, Dowell McNair and C.B. Brown were the trustees. They obtained this land from the St. Joe Development Company.

A significant change occurred in May 1974. Under Rev. C.P. Price, the word “Colored” was removed from the church name. New trustees were appointed. They replaced those named on the earlier deeds.

More land was acquired in May 1978. Trustees at this time included Jessie Dawson and Edwin Williams. Paul Gant, Jim Phillips and Damon McNair also served.

Zion Fair Missionary Church was remodeled in 1937. Faithful members and the Jessie Ball duPont Fund supported additional renovations. During Rev. Frank Jones’ leadership, an extension was added. This included a pastoral study, classrooms and a parking garage. Under Pastor Robert Pierson, the church underwent major repairs. These included a new roof and renovations to the sanctuary. The fellowship hall and kitchen were also updated.
