Designed to inspire. The Youth Olympic Park is Singapore’s first art park. It opened on April 24, 2010. This park commemorates Singapore’s hosting of the first Youth Olympic Games in August 2010.
As you explore the Youth Olympic Park, note that the art here comes from a competition. Local students aged 8 to 28 years old created it. More than one hundred entries were submitted. Only 27 were approved for display in the park.
Take a walk towards The Helix Bridge. You can read a poem called Lion Heart. Amanda Chong, a 16-year-old girl, wrote it.
The Youth Olympic Park features a maze. Aniket Chavan designed this landscape maze. At the center, a 4.5-meter tall mountain greets visitors. Joyce Seah’s drawing inspired the mountain.
Also featured is a rock wall. It displays drawings by 18 teenagers. Each drawing represents famous Singapore icons. These include The Esplanade and The Merlion.
Need a rest? Sit on The Ribbon Seats. Lui Honfay from the National University of Singapore created them. The seats are made of durable materials like wood and metal. Honfay wanted a cute ribbon look. It is intended for kids and the kids-at-heart to enjoy.
The Youth Olympic Park features a complete set of Sports Pictograms. Each Olympic Games edition has its unique set. They depict the sports competed in. The 26 sports pictograms for Singapore 2010 were the first for the Youth Olympic Games. They are designed around the Spirit of Youth. This is an element of the Singapore 2010 emblem.
The Youth Olympic Park is more than just a park. It encourages schoolers and teenagers to learn about the arts. It also helps individuals cultivate their creativity and imagination.
The Youth Olympic Park lights are on from 7 pm to 7 am. Families can enjoy the colorful lights during these hours.
