The YMCA’s roots in Germany go deep, all the way back to 1825 with the Juenglings Vereine. By 1855, 130 of these youth societies existed in Germany. They even attended the YMCA’s first international conference in Paris. The North American YMCA influence became strong in the 1880s. This led to the 1883 founding of the Christlicher Verein Junger Manner (CVJM), also known as the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Berlin.
