Over 130 hectares, the Yeux du ciel sprawls. This monumental land art piece by Antoine Grumbach captivates those flying over Paris. The Yeux du ciel, or “Eyes of the Sky,” is located near Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport in Villeneuve-sous-Dammartin. Passengers arriving and departing can witness this unique artwork. The sheer scale of the project is impressive. The two eyes, each measuring 400 meters long, are formed by the careful planting of trees. The west eye was completed in March 2023. The east eye is scheduled for completion in 2025. The Yeux du ciel is not just an artwork, but a modern geoglyph, a giant drawing turned towards the sky. It interacts with the natural elements, a testament to land art’s power. It’s a welcoming sight for the millions of travelers who pass through Roissy CDG annually. The project, commissioned by ECT, sits on their land reclamation site. ECT specializes in repurposing excavated earth from construction sites in the Île-de-France region. The Yeux du ciel transforms this repurposed earth into a celebration of art and the circular economy. Eventually, the Yeux du ciel will be open to the public as a park and event space. It will be a hub for sporting events, themed gatherings, and celebrations of nature. This ambitious project blends agriculture and leisure, creating a new kind of regional park. It will also be a remarkable observation point, offering unique perspectives of the sky and the surrounding area.
